Zovo Document Compare
Compare two documents for differences and get a word-level redline PDF, a change list and a tracked-changes Word file.
Zovo Document Compare compares two versions of a document, such as a contract, a lease, a policy or a manuscript, and reports each word that changed. Paste both versions or upload them as Word .docx, text PDF or .txt files. You get a redline PDF with deleted words struck through in red, inserted words underlined in blue and a change number in the margin, an Excel list of all changes with the old and new text and the paragraph, and a Word file with real tracked changes that you can accept or reject. Changes that touch numbers, negations such as "not", and words such as "shall" and "may" are flagged as material so a small but important edit is not missed.
What it does
- Word-level redline: paragraphs are matched first, then the words inside each changed paragraph
- Each changed word is listed, including a changed number, "shall" to "may" or a deleted "not"
- Material flags for numbers, negations and modal verbs
- Moved paragraphs are detected and shown as moves, not as a deletion and an insertion
- Redline PDF (full document or changed paragraphs only), Excel change list and a Word .docx with tracked changes
- Reads pasted text, Word .docx, text PDFs and .txt files, up to about 200 pages per document
- Text in Hindi and other Indian scripts, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean prints correctly in the PDF

Limitations
- Scanned PDFs and images are not read; paste the text or upload a .docx or a text PDF
- Compares the main text only: headers, footers, footnotes, comments and automatic list numbers in Word files are not compared
- Formatting changes (bold, font, layout) are not reported; only the words
- Up to about 600,000 characters (about 200 pages) per document
- Scripts without a bundled font (for example Georgian and Armenian) print as ? in the PDF; the Excel and Word files keep them
- Not legal advice; a person should review the redline
